The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust Supports The Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central NC with a Donation of $313,500.00!

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust's mission is to improve the quality of life and health for the financially needy of North Carolina. The Health Care Division promotes wellness state-wide by investing in prevention and treatment. The Poor and Needy Division of the Trust responds to basic life needs and invests in solutions that improve the quality of life and health.
"The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust donation was a tremendous push for us to be able to continue our work with our "Healthy Intiatives" program", says Jerome Levisy; Executive Director. The youth members were able to participate in one of many programs designed to help them learn about making healthy decisions about basic care, eating and hygiene habits, and the importance of exercise.

Oct. 20 - Lights On After Dark with The Maytag Man!
 
Clay Jackson, the face of Maytag, was in town for the local Boys & Girls Club’s Lights On After Dark event. "The main purpose of this event is to inform parents and the community that there is a safe place to send their kids when the school bell rings,” Levisy said. "Reliability and dependability are part of what it takes to be great,” Jackson said.
"There is a three-year partnership between Maytag and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America,” Maytag representative Timothy Mambort said. "It is worth $4.5 million in grants and every year seven clubs are nominated and will receive a portion of that funding for their clubs.
We love it here,” 10-year-old Trenton Parker said. "We get to eat good food and play outdoors.”
"On top of having fun, we have a place to finish out homework and learn more,” 10-year-old Isaiah Lesesane said. "I really like the sports we get to play,” 9-year-old Kevin Street said.
"There is a very positive atmosphere here for the youth,” parent Keith Harris said. "I love how excited my kids get about coming here.”
Levisy said the success of the club has been noticed at the national level, with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America choosing Vance County as a teaching model.

October 26 Health Fair collaboration with Maria Parham Medical Center

 

On October 26, 2011, we collaborated with staff from Maria Parham Medical Center and Henderson & Henderson Family Cosmetic Dentistry, to host a Health Fair for our members and their families! Six stations were arranged to educate our youth members about oral hygiene, physical fitness, diabetes prevention, effective hand washing, healthy eating and respiratory therapy.  The Health Fair provided great lessons through interactive games, demonstrations, and literature distribution. Our members were thrilled with the prize giveaways!   


Goodwill Community Foundation Gifts
The Vance County Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central North Carolina received a check for $50,000.00 from the Goodwill Community Foundation on Monday, June 20, 2011.  The generous gift will be used for repairs and renovation of the Clark Street Boys & Girls Club.
